Aid from the Federal Government
Grants and Scholarships:
Pell Grant
- Need-based grant given to undergraduates based on student’s EFC
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
- Need-based grant awarded by the institution. Individual awards do not exceed $4,000 per academic year.
Loans:
Perkins Loan
- Low-interest loan awarded by the institution to students who have demonstrated financial need.
Direct Student Loan (Formerly Stafford Loan)
- Direct Subsidized Student Loan—loan awarded on the basis of financial need. The government pays the interest while the student is in school more than half time.
- Direct Unsubsidized Student Loan—loan awarded without regard to financial need. The student is charged interest from the time the loan is disbursed until it is paid in full, including in-school, grace and deferment periods.
PLUS Loan (for parents)
- Loans available to parents who are credit-worthy. Annual borrowing limit equals student’s cost of attendance minus any other financial aid received.
Jobs/Work Aid:
Federal Work Study
- A campus-based part-time employment program which provides jobs for students who show financial need.
